History

1826 the Friedrich Altenkirch vineyard is created in Lorch to supply the famous „Zum Schwan“ Hotel. When the Kaiser comes for a visit to the Rheingau he puts up at the „Schwan“ to enjoy the Rhine salmon and is much taken with the hotels wine cellar. The vineyard now experiences its moment in the sun. After becoming the Kaiser's court vintner Altenkirch continues to expand its cellar.

1935 the lawyer Dr. Franz Breuer takes over the vineyard and focuses primarily on maturing Riesling from his own grapes. Today the vineyard is owned by Franziska Breuer-Hadwiger, Dr. Franz Breuer's daughter.
